Teen Camp 2009

Teen Camp

July 26 - August 1, 2009

Simply Jesus

What do cell phones, iPods, game systems and fast food have in common? You can get each of them just the way you want them. Everyday we choose clothes, food, and friends that are exactly what we like and leave very little room for things we dislike (except for homework). I can't help but wonder if we have done the same thing with Jesus. It seems to me that we have somehow made Jesus a thing that can be picked apart, accepting the things we like about him and avoiding the things that are difficult for us to hear. During Teen Camp we are going to discover the "whole" Jesus. We will explore the person who became angry at the temple, the man who walked on water, and the Teacher who chose everyday teenagers to be his disciples. Jesus Christ was an incredible man while walking on this earth and it's time for us to see who he is so we can begin to understand who we are. Come and explore with us.

Friday Notes - Night Teen Service (8/1/08)

Rated R Message = The 13th Floor
*Need your parents permission . . .

In many big cities the 13th floor doesn't exist. . . .

Caleb has been called several times to "the 13th floor" type of places.

Here's an example he shared:

Caleb shared that he felt God was calling him to go to a Rob Zombie / Godsmack concert. The ticket was going to cost $51.00. He felt God giving him an impression of girl crying in the upper left hand corner of the stadium.

It was not about a picket, but about a ticket.

While at the concert Caleb tried to get back stage to talk to Rob Zombie. He even made it to the front row and held up a sign that said "Can I Preach?" One of his buddies was on the upper floor (upper left corner) scoping things out when he heard a girl crying. His friend got to talk with this girl who recently found out she was pregnant. Caleb's buddy had some good conversation with this girl.

"I want to be like Jesus, but smell like Hell" meaning - in the thick of things, walk in places that Jesus would have walked.

The 13th floor could be places like the Middle East, North Africa, North Korea. It could even be the cliché at school, the kids at school that everyone makes fun of.

We are constantly avoiding the 13th Floor.

Hebrews 13:11-13 - 11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. 12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. 13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.

Hebrews 13:13a Let us, then, go to him outside the camp,

Outside the camp was a dark place full of enemies and disease. It's where people were stoned. It was the most disgusting place imaginable. Jesus went to the places outside of the camp and meet with sinners in their own environments allowing him to build friendships.

When the sheep was lost Jesus when out and searched for the sheep. He went out into their land, on their turf. He didn't sit around and hope for the sheep to return home on it's own.

Think of Zacchaeus. He didn't say your coming to my house for dinner. Jesus told Zacchaeus that he was going to his house today. Jesus was the friend of sinners.

Hebrews 13:13b . . . "and bore the disgrace He bore."

If you visit 13th floor places, you will:
*Feel out of place / awkward
*it may cost you everything
*only a very few "unusual soldiers" are called to the 13th floor.
*You have to be unbreakable before you go!

Wednesday Notes - Night Teen Service (7/30/08)

Matthew 4:18-22
*Jesus asked for complete surrender one day.

*Maasai Project

God wouldn't call anyone to do something crazy, would he?
Noah? = Ark, Joshua? = Jericho, Moses? = Pharaoh, Gideon? = Fight, Jonah? = Nineveh

*Once God breaks through he calls us to the ridiculous because He gets the glory!

*When you Follow, you leave everything precious behind.

*What might happen if you go?
*What might not happen if you say no?

*They were all waiting for one person!

*Would God really ask someone to RISK it all? His last words to Peter were "Follow Me"

Deuteronomy 31:6 - Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Be willing to:
- Leave Everything
- Risk Everything

David not only talked to God, but listened. Asked God, then had a Baal Parazim moment.
You listen, He says, you go.

Proverbs 3:5,6 - 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

A - Adoration
C - Confession
T - Thanksgiving
S - Supplication

*Remember that communication is too way! Even with God.

*Be ready to look like a FOOL.

When your Wondering, "Is that really you God?" When God Speaks, take it through 4 steps:

1.) Will it glorify God?
2.) Is it scriptural?
3.) Do other Christians affirm it?
4.) Does it come to pass?

Tuesday Notes - Teen Service (7/29/08)

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Inner Circle (Shema) - Goal: Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Middle Circle (Infatuation) - Goal: To be infatuated = strong short lived feelings. We are in it only when the emotion is in it.

Outer Circle (Inheritance) - Goal: Want the better deal! Your in it for the Inheritance. Think of a young supermodel who marries an old gray hair who is about to pass. How deep is the relationship?

*Matthew 7:23 - Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

Are you in it for Presents from God or for God's Presence?
Revelation 2:2-7 (You're not in it for me)

*Pretend there was no Sunday Church, no Wednesday night Youth Group, no 3DYC, no Camp, none of the times your actually at a church function. During those other times ask yourself, Is there still a relationship with God?

Acts 4:13Acts 4:13 - When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

Peter and John were in the inner circle. They were recognized as me who had been with Jesus. What would others write / say about you?

Some Ideas for Quality Time (Longer) with God

Monday Notes - Teen Service (7/28/08)

Quick Notes from the message Caleb gave on Monday during Teen Camp:

The Great Day of Salvation and the Best Day Ever.
*Caleb talked about the student Shawn from his youth group. It is a great day when
we come to know the Lord, when we ask Him into our lives. style="font-weight:bold;">It is an even better day (The Best Day) when you realize
that God can use you!

Judges 6:11b - Gideon was threshing wheat.
*He was avoiding conflict and hiding in a wine press.
*An angel came to him and called him "Mighty Warrior!"
*Gideon didn't feel like a Warrior.
*We feel just like Gideon sometimes. We are avoiding the battles that are in
our everyday life. Sometimes we don't feel like a Warrior just like Gideon.
Even in those times, will you step-up to the plate? You've got what it takes!

Most Influential Men in the New Testament:
1.) Peter (Simon) - "The Rock" 2 & 3.) James and John (Sons of Thunder)

Shawn was a normal guy struggling with his identity like many of us. His greatest day came when he realized that God could use him.

Are you ready to step-up?

To Step past the excuses?

It's time to be the Mighty Warrior that God has called you to be!

You have to believe it!

Camp comes to a close for 2008 . . .

Teen Camp 2008 came to a close today. Here are some thoughts to think about from the message:

*Everyone came to camp not fully sure what to expect.

*On Monday, we came wanting to be God's Mighty Warrior not fully understanding what that meant.

*On Tuesday we wanted to be in the inner circle. We wanted to spend time with God getting to know Him better.

*On Wednesday we spent time listening to God. We trusted Him and decided to "Follow Him."

*On Thursday we left camp and listened and followed. We went for it! We returned to camp with our very own War stories.

*On Friday, some of us were challenged to search for the 13th Floor.

Will you be the army that continues to advance (run) or will you retreat once your home?

Challenge: Bring it until the Walls Fall Down . . .
